Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
My friend Kim who has already migrated to the States, took this photo of a famous tag in Hillcrest, San Diego, which you will surely identify as Space Invader. A friend who’s a local told her that it’s done by the original French artist’s cousin who lives in San Diego. The friend also said that it’s a “family thing”. The family, spread out across the States, does the same tag. That’s an intriguing local information but I need to research more on the validity of the claim. But I think it qualifies as a modern urban legend—a family of Space Invaders. The work, itself, looks well done and could have been done by Space Invader himself. Could it have been an imitation by Thierry Guetta aka Mr. Brainwash, Space Invader’s cousin? If you’ve seen Exit Through the Gift Shop you would know that Invader’s cousin largely imitates works of street artists. If he did, he wouldn’t have done it himself but with the help of an assistant and would have taken a 121 mile road trip from Los Angeles, California to San Diego, California. That wouldn’t be far-fetched. Thierry Guetta would do that. Still, there’s another possibility of another cousin being the culprit. Perhaps the Kim’s friend personally knows Invader’s cousin to have that information of it being “a family thing”.
